Gabr el Bint: The Southern Dahab Dive Worth the Journey

Gabr el Bint lies south of Dahab and is commonly reached by boat; some operators combine the journey with a camel approach depending on the programme. The distance from town is part of what keeps the day feeling different from an ordinary shore-dive schedule. Underwater, the area is known for healthy reef scenery, walls and coral gardens. The exact dive depends on wind, current and where the boat or guide enters, so there is no single route that every visitor should expect. Wide-angle photography suits the landscape, especially when a diver is used for scale. Keep the subject off the coral and let the guide choose a safe place to pause. Because the site is remote, planning matters more: water, sun protection, equipment checks and a realistic return time. Gabr el Bint is worth treating as a full experience, not as a box to tick between two rushed dives.

Three Pools, Dahab: Snorkelling Beyond the Photo Stop

Three Pools is a real snorkelling and diving area south of Dahab, not only a jeep-stop backdrop. The shallow pools and reef passages can be inviting, but coral is living structure—not a floor, seat or place to stand while adjusting a mask. Enter where the local guide recommends, keep fins away from shallow coral and avoid feeding fish. Conditions change with wind and tide, so a calm-looking surface from the café does not automatically describe the outer reef. Three Pools is often combined with other southern Dahab stops, but a better day leaves enough time to float, observe and move slowly. Rushing several sites usually produces more driving than experience. Beginners should use a flotation aid if needed and stay with a guide. Strong swimmers still need to respect current and reef exits. The best memory here is not a staged photo; it is the moment the shallow desert coast opens into a busy coral world.

Freediving in Dahab: Why the Blue Hole Is Never a Solo Training Site

Dahab attracts serious freedivers because deep water is accessible from shore and the Blue Hole offers a familiar training environment. That ease is useful, but it can also hide the seriousness of deep breath-hold work. Never train alone. A safety diver must meet the athlete at the planned depth, watch the final ascent and know rescue and recovery procedures. A buoy, line and lanyard are part of an organised session, not decoration. Hyperventilation and improvised “personal best” attempts have no place in safe training. Choose a recognised school and a course that matches your level. Ask how safety is organised, how many athletes share a line and what the emergency plan is. Certification does not remove the need for a capable buddy on later sessions. The Blue Hole is valuable because it allows consistent practice. Use that consistency to build technique and judgement—not to chase a number for social media.
